Gardenpride Conservatories Did Not Install My Conservatory

Gardenpride Conservatories Did Not Install My Conservatory

I will get to Gardenpride Conservatories and the point of this post in a moment - but first one thing that still really gets me hot under the collar is when conservatory companies and their website designers STEAL images that belong to me or my company and put them on there website, as if it was work they did.

When I set up websites like ConservatoriesOnline.com/ back in 1999 I really was a First Mover in the area of creating information websites for consumers related to conservatories, double glazing, kitchens etc. Naturally this has meant some “copycats and of course I have no issue with that - healthy competition!

What I have objected to over the years is the number of websites that have stolen images from my websites without asking permission or paying for the right to use the image.

Indeed, it got so bad sometimes that when I eventually caught up with the culprit’s that they would claim that they had not stolen it of my website but another website that had originally stole it of me.

When I could (as in when I had the time) I would chase up these “offenders” and ask them to either 1) Remove the Image, 2) Pay for the Right to use or 3) give a credit to the original source of the image.

All companies had to do was ask - politely. But you know, a surprising number never did ask.

To be honest I have got fed up writing to companies and explaining the error of their ways, so for a change, I thought I might just high-lite some of the particularly bad examples here.

Take for example Gardenpride Conservatories, of Lowfields, Little Eversden, Cambridge - their home page is currently displaying a photograph of a conservatory that is in fact my own conservatory at home:

Interestingly, they claim that they supply a conservatory using 70mm Synseal Shield “Synerjy” profile - but my conservatory was built using Rehau Frames and a Quantal Conservatory Roof.

I wonder what “excuse” Garden Pride Conservatories will use when they eventually contact me about this post - to explain this happening??

Just so I am clear, I am not saying that Gardenpride conservatories are a bad supplier of conservatories, I know nothing of their reputation in their area.

What I am saying guys is GET PERMISSION !!

I really don’t need to give an explanation with this one, do I?

My good friend Matthew Glover of West Yorkshire Windows and The Conservatory Outlet has been making videos again!

This time, his video is I’m sure going to get a good deal more attention than the usual Home Improvement Punters ;-)

Actually, it is all for a good cause really - the “stills” are taken from a Charity Calendar which raised money for their favourite charity www.Heal.co.uk

Building Regulations and Conservatories

Conservatories No Comments »

Does my conservatory need building regulation approval?

In England and Wales - The Building Regulations set minimum standards in the construction of buildings for the health, safety, comfort and convenience of building users.

If you want to construct, extend or alter a dwelling or a building that is a workplace, it is likely that you will need to make an application under the Building Regulations but in some types of building works are exempt.

The regulations cover structural stability, fire precautions, means of escape, damp-proofing, sound insulation, electrical safety, ventilation, drainage, energy conservation and access and facilities for disabled people.

Exempt works include:

1) The extension of a building by the addition at ground level of:

a) a conservatory, porch, covered yard or covered way; or
b) a carport open on at least two sides; where the floor area does not exceed 30 square metres, provided that in the case of a conservatory or porch which is wholly or partly glazed, the glazing satisfies the requirement of Building Regulation Part N Safety Glazing. An exempt conservatory must be separated from the remainder of the house by a wall, door or window.

2) A detached single storey building, having a floor area which does not exceed 30 square metres, which contains no sleeping accommodation and is a building:

a) at no point of which is less than one metre from the boundary of its curtilage; or
b) which is constructed substantially of non-combustible material.

It should be noted that there has been discussion about making all conservatories subject to building regulations and it could be that in the next 1 2 years ALL conservatories will be subject to building regulations.

do you need planning permission for a conservatory

Conservatories No Comments »

No, provided you have not had permitted development rights removed that prevent you from doing so and you do not do the following:

Build between your house and the highway unless the highway is over 20 metres from the canopy

You are building over more than half of the land on your property

The conservatory is higher than the highest part of the house roof

The canopy is more than 4 metres high within 2 metres of your boundary

You increase the volume of your original house by more than 10% or 50 cubic metres for a terraced house or a house in a Conservation Area. To be quite clear, a carport counts against this

For any other house you increase the volume of your original house by more than 15% or 70 cubic metres, whichever the greater, up to a maximum of 115 cubic metres and a carport counts against this

You are not within 5 metres of extensions that have used up your permitted volume allowances
