Barry Dunlop and Dean Hunt at Underground 4 Seminar

Underground 4 Seminar - Los Angeles, 28th -30th March 2008

Just a brief update to say I and my Buzz Marketing partner Dean Hunt are appearing at Yanik Silvers Underground 4 Seminar

Barry Dunlop & Dean Hunt at Underground 4 Seminar

The event is Sold Out - but if you want to have the juicy details anyway - then see Dean Hunts post on the matter at: Yanik Silver’s Underground Seminar 4

Yanik’s events are always very good - pure entrepreneurial fuel and How-To advice on running a business online and offline.

In particular I am looking forward to hearing Eben Pagan speak and Yanik has not one, but two Keynote Speakers.

Keynote Speaker #1: Mike Faith, CEO Headsets.com

Mike is the founder CEO of Headsets.com, Inc. A company that’s grown from a $40 thousand investment in 1998 to $31 Million in sales last year. (On track to do $40M in 2007)

AND

Keynote Speaker #2: Tony Hsieh, CEO Zappos.com

Tony Hsieh is the CEO and Director of Zappos.com—the number one footwear retailer on the web with over $800M in gross merchandise sales last year.

But Zappos.com isn’t Tony’s first (or only) big success. A few years earlier, he started a business called LinkExchange. He calls it a “side business” that he started out of his apartment. I’ll take his word for it… but I don’t know too many “side businesses” that get sold to Microsoft for a whopping $265 million. But Tony’s done it.

Expect some updates next week when we return

It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at
least the equivalent of what he takes out of it ~ Albert Einstein

On 2nd January 2008, Heal has 25 UK cyclists flying to Hyderabad to take part in Cycle India. This is Heal’s biggest fundraising effort to date with the hope that we will raise in the region of £100,000 which will go towards building a new school project in Andhra Pradesh.

L to R - Photo shows Matthew Glover (head of Fund Raising), Dr Prasad (the founder of Heal) and Barry Dunlop.

Heal is a UK registered charity which raises money for helping orphaned and underprivileged children escape from poverty in this region of India. I am passionate about Heal as virtually all the money we raise goes directly to helping these kids, as the charity has virtually no administration costs with no paid staff.

So far, Cycle India has already raised over £75,000 and we hope the final total will be over £100,000! With this revenue, which is a massive amount for a small charity, HEAL intends to invest in a new project, such as a new school or further Children’s Village.

10 ways of annoying Digg users. Break these rules at your peril.

Very good advice about how not to annoy DIGG users - but frankly, the advice applies to just about all webusers in my opinion. If only more websites could follow these rules.

Zeronauts, Yanik Silver Mastermind Group and Zero G Flight

Other Stuff No Comments »

As some of you may know, I am a member of Yanik Silvers Mastermind Group (Highly recommended) - which means several trips to the USA each year.

I always enjoy my trips across the pond and in particular the feedback and inspiration that being a member of such a Mastermind group delivers. The group really is a very clever and inspired bunch of people. The benefits in terms of business ideas, joint ventures, insight and business clarity cannot in my opinion be over stated.

So if you ever get a chance to join any type of Mastermind Group, be that a group of local business people or salespeople or one of the growing number of Mastermind groups being put together by leading Internet Gurus (I hate that word) then I highly recommend you consider it.

You know what they say, two minds are better than one - but frankly 16 or 18 minds is better still - Well, as long as it is not a committee ;-)

Anyway, the real purpose of this posting.

One of the attractions for me joining Yanik’s Mastermind Group was the opportunity to do a little “adventure” side trip at the end of one of our Mastermind Meetings (Entirely optional - not everyone did it)

So on my last trip to the States on the 20th January, myself and my son, Michael joined Yanik, other members of the Mastermind Group and some friends of Yanik ( Rich Schefren, Tom Bell and Mike Filsaime included) on what was to be the most amazing trip of a lifetime in a Zero G Flight.

So what is a Zero G Flight?

Well, put very basically it is an opportunity to experience Weightless Flight (Just like an Astronaut)

The providers of this Experience are a company called Zero Gravity Corporation and they are I believe the first company to offer a commercial Weightless Flight termed The ZERO-G Experience. These are the same types of flights used by NASA to train their astronauts and used by Ron Howard in the filming of Apollo 13.

Those of us who complete this “mission” become Zeronauts ;-)

To find out more about the whole experience please see Yaniks posting here: Zero G experience

Yanik rather nicely refers to the aircraft by its other well know name of the Vomit Comet. (But Yanik did not Puke!)

and for more all round info check out this article at USAToday

The following video can only give the most basic representation of what we experienced - in it you can see Yanik “Superman” Silver quite clearly and approx one third of the way in, my son Michael comes sliding into view.

If you ever get a chance to do anything like this, I highly recommend it

And here is a Photo of Michael and I Pre-Flight

As someone who has sons who are Young Entrepreneurs it is always pleasing to see Organisations etc offering incentive’s to The Young Entrepreneur

The following is a fine example on one such Organisation that is offering a helping hand to the Young Business Person.
